Following the continuous manufacturing and circulation of fake, expired or adulterated products across the country, despite repeated efforts by the concerned authority to curb the menace, concerned Nigerians have called on National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) to involve use of payable whistle-blowers to fast t

The 2 arrested suspects
Just as two suspects were arrested when National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) invaded Trade Fair Complex in Lagos on Tuesday, October 13.
The raid of the complex, according to NAFDAC officials was made possible following the intelligence report they received on the dangerous place where they are repackaging expired drinks, and outright manufacturing of adulterated famous wine and hot drinks.
A concerned man, who simply identified himself as Mr Chinedu at the scene of the fake product, inside Trade Fair Complex on Tuesday, October 13, said NAFDAC can only win the war if they are ready to use whistle-blowers with some amount of money payable to them.
According to Chinedu, "these evil manufacturers are not doing so in isolation, there are some people who can give useful information about them if and when they are shielded from being exposed to the general public and if they are paid some amount by NAFDAC.
"Since they will not like to risk their lives on the altar of patriotism alone, they will need
protection without being exposed and if they are rewarded with money, some of the servants of these fake product manufacturers will leak the secrets of their ogas to constitutional authorities."
Another respondent, who simply called himself as Mr Nno, "NAFDAC should pledge to pay money and also promise to protect any whistle-blower, then many of the fake manufacturers would be blown out of evil business when their aggrieved servants will secretly inform the authority about their master.
"What the fake drink manufacturers normally do is buy the original drink, whether in Can drink or bottled drink. Then they will reproduce the same labels, and start producing same liquid, they can use one original bottle to guide them into reproduction of lots of the same drinks. Laying hands on Ethanol, they are able to start doing their work.
"Now, once they have Ethanol, then they can start reproduction of almost exact drinks. Getting such empty bottles are easy by getting them from nightclub waste bins and also, they can get some empty bottles from bottle manufacturers, but when money is attached, aggrieved servants will betray their ogas."
While addressing the press, the media after the raid, Deputy Director of Public Affairs, Mrs Christiana Obiazikwor who led the team with other directors, explained her reason for following the team of enforcement for the exercise.
According to her, she decided to accompany the enforcement team in order to further display the commitment and concern of Director General of NAFDAC, Professor Mojisola
Adeyeye towards pruning fake products.
"'NAFDAC DG, Professor Mojisola Adeyeye is very passionate in tackling of fake, adulterated or expired products in the country, and she wwants veryone to know that NAFDAC has on daily basis has been eembarking on raid and seizure to prevent them from circulation of such products from the market. We are here to reassure the general public that NAFDAC is on top of the situation and we will get to the roots.
Moreover, Obiazikwor maintained, "'on behalf of the DG, I want to reiterate that NAFDAC DG and the entire workforce of
NAFDAC enforcement teams, with the collaboration of well meaning Nigerians shall win the war against expired or adulterated products across the country.
Though unscrupulous people are selling poisonous drinks, but with the collaboration of general public we will win. We need more whistle-blowers, if you see something, say something, we are appealing to the general public to keep informing NAFDAC of any suspect producers, we shall always protect your identification."'
On his part, the Deputy Enforcement Officer, Kunle Ojo lamented against the nefarious activities of the fake manufacturers of fake drinks.
According to Ojo, "As Christmas is fast approaching, these evil minded individuals want to keep destroying lives with fake products, and we are here to ensure that they are arrested from such act. As we were able to get here today based on intelligent reports, we need the assistance of the general public to expose such producers," he said.
