In apparent bid to extend and also strengthen its reach into markets, community pharmacies, and primary health centres nationwide, the  leadership of National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has commissioned 600-member pharmacists reserve volunteer group.

NAFDAC Director General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye inaugurated the 600-member strong pharmacists Reserve Volunteers as a strategic initiative to further extend and strengthen the Agency’s regulatory authority across the country.

Speaking during the inauguration, Prof. Adeyeye disclosed that the Volunteers, who were all qualified Pharmacists, were drawn from all 36 States and the FCT, selected through a transparent, merit-based process ensuring representation across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.

Adeyeye described the Pharmacists Volunteer Programme as ”a strategic investment in Nigeria’s regulatory future, designed to extend NAFDAC’s reach into markets, community pharmacies, and primary health centres nationwide.”

According to her, ‘The Programme will build a standing national reserve of trained, deployable pharmacists, mobilisable during product recalls, falsified medicine outbreaks, or health emergencies."

She explained that the Volunteers ”will be engaged in pharmacovigilance, compliance monitoring, quality assurance, drug abuse sensitisation, and enforcement within their home states, progressing through four phases: Onboarding, Virtual Training, Field Engagement, and Ongoing Management.’

”In return, volunteers will receive hands-on regulatory experience, professional certification, and formal letters of service,” the Director General said.

Prof. Adeyeye charged them to serve with integrity, placing public safety above all else as they engage in the voluntary regulatory service.
