Moniepoint Microfinance Bank has unveiled an enhanced range of savings products designed to give individuals and businesses greater flexibility in building financial security, as it launched a new brand campaign featuring Nollywood actress and filmmaker, Funke Akindele.

The campaign, themed “One Step Ahead,” seeks to address the everyday financial challenges that often disrupt savings plans, while encouraging Nigerians to develop stronger savings habits and build toward long-term financial goals.

The launch comes amid persistent economic uncertainty and growing consumer demand for savings solutions that combine competitive returns with easy access to funds when unexpected financial needs arise.

According to Moniepoint, a recent customer survey showed that unexpected expenses account for 72.8 per cent of savings disruptions, while irregular income affects 51 per cent of savers nationwide.

The bank said the findings reinforced the need for savings products that are not only designed around long-term financial goals but are also sufficiently flexible to accommodate unforeseen circumstances.

Speaking on the initiative, the Managing Director of Moniepoint Microfinance Bank, Babatunde Olofin, said the new products were developed in response to specific challenges faced by customers.

“These innovative savings solutions were developed specifically to ease customer pain points. Our ecosystem gives everyone the flexibility to grow their money and access it whenever they need it, combined with some of the best rates in the market — an offering that is truly unique.”

Olofin said the initiative was also in line with the bank’s broader mission of promoting financial wellbeing and helping individuals and businesses prepare for both expected and unexpected financial needs.

“Our mission is to create financial happiness for everyone. A savings product like this is a critical tool for ensuring people can confidently make their dreams come true while saving for both rainy and sunny days."

He added that the combination of savings discipline, access to liquidity and Moniepoint’s digital payments infrastructure would enable customers to remain financially prepared for changing circumstances.

The new savings portfolio comprises four products, each designed around different financial goals, lifestyles and cash-flow patterns.

Target Savings allows customers to withdraw up to 50 per cent of their savings once without losing accrued interest, with interest rates of up to 11.5 per cent per annum.

Flexible Savings provides customers with up to four withdrawals a month without forfeiting interest and offers a rate of 9.5 per cent per annum.

The Fixed Deposit product offers interest upfront, with rates of up to 17.5 per cent per annum, while Save As You Transact allows customers to save as they spend and withdraw their funds without restrictions.

Moniepoint said customers, except those on premium tiers, can begin their savings journey with a minimum deposit of ₦1,000.

The bank, which says it serves more than 20 million business banking and personal customers, positioned the new product range as an alternative for consumers seeking a combination of savings, payments and returns through a single digital platform.

Non-Moniepoint customers can access the products by downloading the bank’s business or personal banking mobile application, completing the account-opening process and fulfilling the required Know Your Customer (KYC) requirements.

Funke Akindele anchors campaign

To drive the new savings proposition to a wider audience, Moniepoint has enlisted Funke Akindele as the face of its “One Step Ahead” campaign.

The campaign draws on Akindele’s popular Jenifa character and the universe of Jenifa’s Diary, using the familiar setting and characters to communicate the importance of financial preparedness and savings discipline.

The series, which began airing in 2015, has grown into one of Nigeria’s most recognisable television franchises, providing Moniepoint with a familiar cultural platform through which to communicate its financial message.

Akindele, an award-winning actress, filmmaker and producer, is one of the most prominent figures in Nigeria’s entertainment industry. Her commercial influence and widespread appeal, particularly through the Jenifa character, have made her a strategic choice for a campaign targeted at mass-market consumers.

Moniepoint said the partnership reflects its ambition to make financial conversations more relatable by connecting savings with the everyday realities of Nigerians.

Through the “One Step Ahead” campaign, the bank is positioning savings not simply as a financial product but as a means of building resilience, maintaining access to liquidity and giving individuals and businesses greater confidence in navigating an uncertain future.
