Operation Keep Lagos State Clean: Government Sets Up Waste Management Police

Concerned about heaps of wastes, especially in current raining season, Lagos State Government has set up Waste Management Monitoring Police.


The new outfit, made up of members of National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) work as the waste police are jointly working with Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) and the Ministry of Transportation. 


As they are for operation keep Lagos Clean, they are to monitor motor parks, garages, bus stops, and major roads to report and stop bad waste disposal.


As the members of these unions are to play critical roles in maintaining public order and security, they are to report suspicious activities and support the state government in clean-up of the state.


It would be recalled that Lagos State Government inaugurated a special "Waste Police" task force in June 2026 to stop illegal refuse dumping, clear roadside waste, and enforce environmental laws.


During the commissioning,  the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos Waste Management Authority, Dr Muyiwa Gbadegesin, did announced that the agency has already constituted a coordinated waste police initiative involving key stakeholders, including transport unions and community groups, to strengthen environmental compliance and discourage illegal dumping.


Gbadegesin emphasised that  government had intensified enforcement against indiscriminate waste disposal and other environmental infractions.


As the State Government is really concerned about the dirtiness of the state and her citizens' dumping of refuse illegally.th3 Waste Police Officers will be moving around with or without uniform to arrest anyone caught in such an act.

  The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has released the full list of 16 officers of the Armed Forces of Nigeria who were indicted by a Special Investigative Panel over allegations of serious misconduct, including an alleged plot to overthrow the government of President Bola Tinubu. The Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, disclosed on Monday that the panel had concluded its investigation and found that several of the officers had cases to answer. He said the affected personnel would now face a military Court Martial in line with established procedures and extant regulations. Major Gen. The federal government has declared Thursday, March 19, and Friday, March 20, 2026, as public holidays to mark Eid-ul-Fitr.
