Moniepoint creates over 8m jobs, grows MSME through loans of $700m

Moniepoint has announced disbursement of $700 million in loans to micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), in 2025 to help bridge Nigeria’s estimated $32.2 billion funding gap for small businesses.

Apparently aware that inclusiveness of medium scale enterprises through easy access to finance, is  a lubricant oil which would fast track job creation and industrialisation, the leadership of Moniepoint Inc, has published its inaugural Impact Report.

The report admitted that increased access to formal credit is driving growth among Nigeria’s micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), with businesses on its platform now supporting more than eight million jobs.

The report, titled Creating Financial Happiness, highlights the company’s growth into a financial ecosystem serving over 20 million businesses and individuals and processing more than $250 billion in annual transaction value.

According to the report, Moniepoint disbursed more than $700 million in loans to MSMEs in 2025 to help bridge Nigeria’s estimated $32.2 billion funding gap for small businesses.

It stated that three out of every four businesses that received loans from the company were accessing formal business credit for the first time. The fintech said it leverages transaction data to assess cash flow and creditworthiness instead of relying primarily on collateral, making financing more accessible to small businesses.

The report noted that businesses which accessed Moniepoint’s credit recorded a 36 per cent increase in average transaction value, while enterprises banking with the company supported more than eight million jobs during the year.

Moniepoint also reported significant growth in lending to women-owned businesses. It said women accounted for 36 per cent of its loan portfolio in 2025 after lending to female entrepreneurs increased by more than 300 per cent.

The company added that 62 per cent of women borrowers received their first formal business loan through Moniepoint.

On financial inclusion, the report said customers without smartphones completed transactions worth more than $170 million using the company’s USSD banking service. It added that Moniepoint’s point-of-sale terminals now operate across all 774 local government areas of Nigeria, enabling payment services for about 100 million people.

The report further showed that 83 per cent of surveyed customers said their quality of life had improved through the company’s services, while 85 per cent reported greater confidence in achieving their financial goals.

Speaking on the report, Moniepoint Co-Founder and Group Chief Executive Officer, Tosin Eniolorunda, said the company’s mission is to make financial services accessible to every African.

He said 75 per cent of businesses that received Moniepoint loans in 2025 had never previously accessed formal business credit, adding that the company had also significantly expanded lending to women-owned businesses.

Eniolorunda said the investments were already yielding positive results, with businesses that accessed Moniepoint credit recording a 36 per cent increase in transaction value while enterprises on its platform now support more than eight million jobs.

Beyond Nigeria, the report said Moniepoint expanded into East Africa through the acquisition of Sumac Microfinance Bank in Kenya. It also launched Moniebook, a platform that combines payments, bookkeeping and inventory management for small businesses.

The company said it continued to invest in education, entrepreneurship and community development through initiatives such as Women in Tech and DreamDevs, while also supporting financial literacy programmes and government-backed subsidised food distribution to more than 800,000 people in northern Nigeria.

Moniepoint noted that it now employs more than 3,300 people across 10 countries and has received international recognition, including being named among TIME’s 100 Most Influential Companies in 2025 and the Financial Times’ Africa’s Fastest-Growing Companies.
