NAWOJ Lagos State Chapter closes Consumer Rights Champion, Sola Salako-Ajulo, as "Iconic Woman of the Month" for March

The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Lagos Chapter, has chosen Hon Sola Salako-Ajulo, as the Icon of the month of March.

Just as the women wing in NUJ stated Sola Salako-Ajulo is a force for justice in the marketplace."

In a statement by the body, the Chairperson of NAWOJ, Lagos State Chapter, Jumoke Johnson admitted that
Sola Salako-Ajulo was  picked by the Women Journalists as the Icon based protective roles of consumers she  has been playing in the country  hitherto.

"NAWOJ is proud to announce veteran advocate, activist, and writer, Sola Salako-Ajulo, as its Iconic Woman of the Month for March 2026.

"This prestigious recognition, an initiative led by the NAWOJ Lagos Chairperson, Jumoke Johnson, is designed to celebrate women who have made immeasurable contributions to society and serve as inspirations for transformation."




According to Jumoke, "Mrs. Salako-Ajulo was chosen for her over two decades of tireless dedication to consumer rights and her profound impact on the Nigerian marketplace.

"Sola Salako-Ajulo, known affectionately as "Consumer Mama," have consistently advocated for the protection and education of Nigerian consumers for over twenty years. Her journey began in 2003 with her influential column, "Handwriting on the Wall," and has since evolved into a career defined by systemic change."

NAWOJ reiterated that "As the Founder of the Consumer Advocacy Foundation of Nigeria (CAFON), she has been at the forefront of several landmark initiatives.

"In 2016, she led the #NoBankingDay Protest, a historic movement against excessive and arbitrary bank charges in Nigeria.

"She is the author of the essential handbook, "Protect Yourself: Your Naija Guide To Consumer Right And Protection," which simplifies complex regulations for the average citizen."

Furthermore the union pointed out that "Recently, she pioneered the CAFON Consumers Companion (3C), an AI-powered platform that serves as a 24/7 digital advisor to help Nigerians understand and enforce their rights.

"Mrs. Salako-Ajulo's professional excellence has been consistently recognized by her peers. She was named Marketing Journalist of the Year at the Nigeria Marketing Awards for three consecutive years (2023, 2024, and 2025) and was honored as the Brand Journalist of the Year at the ADVAN African Awards 2025.

Similarly, Jumoke noted that "Where consumers face exploitation, Sola Salako-Ajulo provides the education and the tools for redress. She reminds us that an informed consumer is the strongest regulator, and her life's work is a testament to the power of a single, determined voice to create national change".

NAWOJ Lagos congratulates Mrs. Salako-Ajulo on this well-deserved honor and thanks her for her continued service to the people of Nigeria.
