Concerned by the reported news in circulation, a Non-Governmental Organisation, and Non-Partisan Organisation, Guard Time Information (GTI), has strongly condemned the reported threat to the life of His Excellency, Peter Obi in Edo State.
The organization in a statement by the Chairman, Mr Bibi Oduku, noted that the body that has many legal practitioners is committed to the protection of democratic values, rule of law, and the fundamental rights of all Nigerians, viewed any threat to the life of any political leader as a serious danger to our democracy and national peace.
According to his statement, "We therefore call on the newly appointed Inspector General of Police of the Nigeria Police Force to immediately deploy intelligence units to thoroughly investigate the alleged threat and ensure that those responsible are identified and brought to justice without delay.
Nigeria’s democracy must not be reduced to a battlefield of intimidation, harassment, or violence. Political parties and their supporters must understand that democracy thrives on healthy competition, issue-based campaigns, and respect for opposing views not hostility or personal attacks."
Moreover GTI pointed out that "Political rivalry should never translate into threats to life or acts capable of destabilizing our nation. Leaders across party lines must promote tolerance, dialogue, and peaceful engagement in the interest of national unity and development."
Furthermore, Oduku disclosed that "GTI Human Rights Activists Nationwide wishes to make it clear that anyone found guilty, regardless of status or political affiliation, must face the full weight of the law. No individual is above the law, and justice must be served to deter future occurrences.
"We urge security agencies to act swiftly and professionally to reassure Nigerians that their safety and democratic rights remain protected.
"Nigeria belongs to all of us. Let us safeguard it together says Mr Bibi Oduku, Chairman GTI Human Rights Activists Nationwide accompanied with other legal practitioners, human rights activists and others in Abuja FCT, Nigeria."
