TUC, HAPSSSA call on Nigerian workers to brace up for sustainable growth amidst unstable economic realities

Leadership of Trade Union Congress (TUC),  Hotel and Personal Services Senior Staff Association (HAPSSSA) have charged  Nigerian workers to brace up for developmental skills amidst unstable economic realities for sustainable personal development and job security.



TUC President, Comrade Festus Osifo and Services Senior Staff Association (HAPSSSA) President, Comrade Iyeh Adegbe William, made this call during the just concluded Annual workshop of Hotel and Personal Services Senior Staff Association (HAPSSSA) that took place at Airport Hotel, Lagos on Thursday this week.





Osifo who was represented by the Secretary General, Comrade Nuhu Toro, pointed out that, "Unstable economic challenges have placed enormous pressure on both workers and employers. It is, therefore, imperative that unions adapt strategically to these realities — not by compromising our principles, but by deepening our understanding of management dynamics, economic trends, and policy shifts, so that we can negotiate from a position of knowledge, foresight, and strength.






This event, he noted, is both timely and strategic, especially as it focuses on the theme:“Strategic Adaptation of Unions/Workers to Understand Management Roles During This Unstable Economy.”






Still charging the workers, the TUC helmsman added, saying, "Comrades, the times we live in are turbulent, marked by inflation, economic uncertainties, unstable policies, and the rising cost of living. The hospitality sector, in particular, has been one of the hardest hit by economic instability and global disruptions. Yet, it remains a vital component of Nigeria’s service economy and an important source of employment." 




Likewise, And also on his part, the Chairman of the  occasion, Comrade Samuel Alabi Company Secretary of Eko Hotel inhouse union, charged members to be fully prepared for continuous training in an era of AI for job sustainability.


"I charge all participants to apply the knowledge gained from this workshop judiciously. Let the insights acquired today empower you to engage management constructively, defend workers courageously, and strengthen our collective capacity to adapt in these challenging times."


Alabi charged all workers, especially union leaders to always carry the members along while having any pressing issues with the management of their workplace for more cordial relationship that will make such management see unionists as joint builders with the ememployers.


In his welcome address, the Hotel and Personal Services Senior Staff Association (HAPSSSA), President, Comrade Iyeh Adegbe William, commended the union leaders for their resilience despite the harsh economic situation that have been affecting the take home pay of members.
