That many people are rush to take additional step for security checks in their homes or workplaces, may no longer be news, but the fresh news herein is that unless you take full possession of the control, the man that installed it may also be using  it to monitor you without your knowledge or permission.


Allcitynews.ng learnt from reliable source that "After the installer is done fixing your cameras, he still knows the default passwords, admin logins, and remote access settings. If you don’t take immediate steps to secure it, you are literally paying someone to watch your family’s privacy.


From a legal perspective, intrusion into your private home through CCTV is a breach of your constitutional right to privacy under Section 37 of the 1999 Constitution but the law only protects you after harm is done. Wisdom is to prevent it before it happens.


What to do after installation:-


Change all default passwords immediately. Do not leave the system running on the username and password set by the installer.


Demand the admin rights. You, not the installer, must have the main login and backup codes.

Restrict remote viewing. If the system is internet-enabled, disable cloud or remote access you don’t need. That’s the easiest way for outsiders to peep.

Audit your system. Engage a trusted IT/security expert (not the installer) to test and confirm no backdoor access exists.


Put it in writing. Always insist on a short contract or service agreement with your installer stating they have no right to retain or access your feed after installation.


Security without control is insecurity.

Don’t just install cameras; secure your access. What you think is protecting you may be the very tool exposing you.
