PenCom partners NLC to smoothen pension scheme
By allcitynews.blog
As part of the measure to smoothen and harmonise workers' pension, the Director-General of the National Pension Commission (PenCom), Ms. Omolola Oloworaran, has entered into partnership agreement with Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).
They signed the agreement on Friday, August 29, 2025 during her courtesy visit to the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Joe Ajaero, at the NLC Headquarters in Abuja.
Speaking during the visit, Ms. Oloworaran said the meeting was aimed at strengthening collaboration between PenCom and organised labour in advancing the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) in Nigeria. She acknowledged the NLC’s pivotal role in supporting the scheme since inception, describing the union as a critical stakeholder in the pension industry.
The PenCom boss assured the labour movement that her administration would be more responsive to workers’ needs by providing timely information on the industry’s performance, while working to consolidate the gains of the CPS.
In his response, Comrade Ajaero commended the PenCom DG and reaffirmed the NLC’s commitment to the pension scheme. He, however, decried the slow pace of adoption of the CPS by some states and the poor compliance level within the private sector.
Ajaero urged PenCom to intensify advocacy for full implementation of the scheme across subnational governments and pledged the union’s readiness to collaborate with the regulator in enforcing compliance against defaulting employers.
