Access Holdings Plc "Access Holdco” or “the Company” has announced the appointment of Mr. Innocent Ike as its substantive Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, effective August 29, 2025, following regulatory approval.

According to a statement signed by the Company Secretary, Sunday Ekwochi, Mr. Ike takes over from Ms. Bolaji Agbede, who has steered the organization as Acting Group Chief Executive Officer for the past 18 months.

In line with regulatory requirements on years of experience for a Financial Holding Company’s Chief Executive, Ms. Agbede will return to her role as Executive Director, Business Support.

Under Ms. Agbede’s leadership, Access Holdings recorded landmark achievements, including ensuring organizational stability following the passing of the late Group CEO, Herbert Wigwe; successfully completing the Company’s ₦351 billion Rights Issue; and seamlessly hosting two Annual General Meetings. Her stewardship maintained corporate momentum and reinforced Access Holdco’s strong market positioning.

Chairman of the Company, Mr. Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede, CFR, commended her outstanding contributions, adding, “We are thrilled to welcome Mr. Innocent Ike as we chart the next phase of our journey. At the same time, we extend our deepest gratitude to Ms. Bolaji Agbede, whose exceptional leadership over the past 18 months has been invaluable. Though regulatory stipulations necessitate this transition, we remain grateful for the solid foundation she has laid.”

Mr. Ike brings over 30 years of experience in banking and financial services. A first-class graduate of Accounting from the University of Lagos and Best Graduating Student of 1988, he is a Fellow of both the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), as well as a Certified IFRS expert.

His career includes a decade at Access Bank, where he rose to General Manager overseeing corporate, commercial, and public sector portfolios. He later served as Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Polaris Bank (2020–2022), where he launched the award-winning VULTe digital banking platform, which earned multiple industry recognitions, including BusinessDay BAFI’s Digital Bank of the Year and Nigerian Fintech Digital Bank of the Year in 2021 and 2022.

Accepting his appointment, Mr. Ike expressed gratitude and optimism:

“I am honoured to serve as Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer and eager to work with the exceptional team at Access Holdings. Building on the legacies of Herbert Wigwe and Bolaji Agbede, I look forward to driving our vision forward and delivering outstanding value to shareholders and stakeholders.”

With Mr. Ike at the helm, Access Holdings reaffirmed its commitment to its long-term vision of becoming the World’s Most Respected African Financial Services Group, positioning itself for sustained growth and industry leadership.
