There seems to be bright light at the end of the tunnel for police officers who would have been compulsorily retired following the appointment of their course mate as Inspector-General of Police.
As the appointment Tunji Disu as Acting IGP had reignited a nationwide debate over the controversial practice of compulsory retirement for senior police officers that are in the same grade.
The names of the Police DIGs, AIGs who escaped the axe based on appointment of Acting Inspection General of Police (IGP) Tunji Disu.
The planned shake-up that would have seen the compulsory retirement of around 30 Deputy Inspectors General (DIGs) and Assistant Inspectors General of Police (AIGs) following the removal of Kayode Egbetokun as Inspector-General of Police (IGP) has been halted by President Bola Tinubu, a report by SaharaReporters showed.
The appointment of a new Acting IGP has reignited a nationwide debate over the controversial practice of compulsory retirement for senior police officers. Historically, such transitions trigger a wave of exits among top-ranking officers.
Egbetokun has since handed over to his successor, Acting IGP Tunji Disu.
However, SaharaReporters reported that the this won’t happen.
This, the online newspaper showed, is because President intervened to stop the mass firing of senior officers.
