The Director General and Chief Executive Officer of National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Professor Mojisola Adeyeye has explained the real reason why fake, expired and substandard drugs and other products are still finding their ways into Nigerian markets.
Addressing news men, in its Intelligence and Enforcement office on Saturday November 1, 2025, Adeyeye who was represented by the Director of Director, Investigation And Enforcement Directorate (IED), Dr Iluyomade Martins, in response to a question on why there are still fake, substandard or expired products amidst NAFDAC presence in the sea and airports, Iluyomade said,
"We are fighting war with some unscrupulous minded people who are always devising strange ways to escape our officials at the points of entry. Most of those fake drugs, expired or substandard products are being brought in under fake labels as vehicle or other machine spares parts to deceive our officials. And most of those products are using original packaging by refilling recognised products with the fake products."
However, Adeyeye promised to restrategise at the ports for thorough investigation in the ports to checkmate such products from coming through the deceit of spareparts labelling.
Just as Adeyeye that spoke through Iluyomade assured that the attacked of NAFDAC officials inside Trade Fair will not stop them from doing their jobs.
Reacting against the attacks and vandalisation of NAFDAC's operational vehicles by yet unknown traders and their hired thugs, Adeyeye vowed that such attack will not hinder them from fight against fake products across the country.
It would be recalled that NAFDAC officials were attacked and their 10 operational vehicles were vandalised by the traders with their hired hoodlums.
According to Iluyomade while addressing newsmen during a news conference on Saturday, November 1, in Lagos, reiterated that 10 operational vehicles worth billions of Naira were also destroyed during the attack.
Iluyomade, who led the team for the operation stated that the attack on NAFDAC officials was premeditated, aimed at harming them in the line of duty on Oct. 30, as such they, through the assistance of military officials and police were able to load four trucks with the products, that can roughly be valued at N400 million.
"The traders with their hired mercenaries, specifically asked for the identity of the director who was also the Chairman, Federal Task Force around the operation ground while they were destroying 10 operational vehicles belonging to NAFDAC and other security agencies worth over N25 billion.
“A reliable intelligence reveals that the attack was pre-planned and also a calculated attempt to assassinate the Director (I&E) with some other NAFDAC staff," he said.
