The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Lagos State Council, has announced full readiness for its week-long celebration, during the 2025 Press Week  which designed to foster unity, professional reflection and capacity building among journalists.

According to the Planning Committee,  the event will run from Monday, November 24 to Sunday, November 30, 2025.

This year’s Press Week will focus on the theme: “Unlocking Opportunities for Businesses in a Challenging Economy: The Role of the Media / Roadmaps to Energy Security in Nigeria.”

The theme, according to the union, reflects the critical responsibilities of journalists in shaping national discourse, supporting business growth, and deepening conversations around Nigeria’s energy future.

Speaking in Lagos, NUJ Lagos Chairman, Comrade Adeleye Ajayi, said the annual event goes beyond celebration, serving as a platform for journalists to reconnect, unwind and exchange ideas.

The council Chairman,  Comrade Adeleye Ajayi, the Secretary,  Comrade Tunde Olalere, and Chairman of the Planning Committee, Comrade Wale Akodu, said,

“Journalists are hardworking people and, as such, we should make out time to bond and celebrate one another. The Press Week is held once a year, and journalists should seize the opportunity to reconnect with one another,” Ajayi noted.

The 2025 Press Week will kick off on Monday, November 24 with a Health Walk scheduled to start at 7 a.m. under the Ikeja Bridge.

Participants will later return to the NUJ Secretariat for a series of indoor and outdoor games aimed at promoting wellness and camaraderie.

A major highlight of the week is the Press Week Lecture, pencilled for Wednesday, November 26, at the BOS Hall, LTV Complex, Agidingbi, Ikeja.

The lecture is expected to draw captains of industry, media leaders, students of journalism and other stakeholders to discuss the media’s evolving role in a challenging economic and energy landscape.

On Thursday, November 27, journalists across various chapels will converge for the Media Rendezvous, an interactive social event featuring cultural performances, dancing and singing competitions and other bonding activities. The event will begin at 4 p.m.

Activities will continue on Friday, November 28 with a Juma’at Service at the Lagos State Secretariat Central Mosque, Alausa, Ikeja.

Later that evening, the council will host its prestigious Gala and Awards Night at the BOS Hall, where distinguished individuals and organisations who have demonstrated excellence in their fields will be honoured.

The week will close on a spiritual note on Sunday, November 30, with a Thanksgiving Service at the Chapel of Christ the Light, Alausa, Ikeja, beginning at 10 a.m.

The NUJ Lagos leadership expressed profound appreciation to its partners and sponsors, including Lotus Bank, Dangote Group, FrieslandCampina WAMCO, UBA, and Stitches & Prints Limited, for their support in making the 2025 Press Week “top-notch.”
