Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) has disassociated itself from reports alleging that it accused TotalEnergies Nigeria Limited of maltreatment of Nigerian workers and other labour-related violations.

The Association made the clarification in a statement issued by its National Secretariat following a recent publication in ThisDay Newspaper.

According to PENGASSAN, the report alleged that the Association accused TotalEnergies of harassment of Nigerian employees by expatriates, racism, and violations of the Nigerian Local Content Act.

The National Leadership of the Association stated that it neither issued any statement on the matter nor authorised any document for publication by the media.

PENGASSAN explained that the publication referenced an internal communication between staff and management, which was released without approval.

It described the unauthorised disclosure as a serious breach of privacy and confidentiality and strongly condemned the action.

The Association stressed that it is a structured organisation and that only its National Leadership is empowered to speak on its behalf.

While acknowledging the right of individuals and groups to raise issues of national interest, PENGASSAN cautioned against the misuse of its name to promote unverified allegations.

It warned that such actions could create unnecessary tension in the workplace and damage the reputation of the Association, the company involved, and the oil and gas industry at large.

PENGASSAN also clarified that it has no affiliation or connection with the group identified as MIND in the report.

The Association reaffirmed its commitment to dialogue, consultation, and constructive engagement with all stakeholders in the oil and gas sector.
It noted that its core mandate remains the protection of the welfare and professional interests of its members while promoting industrial harmony.

PENGASSAN stated that it would not condone sensationalism or the circulation of unverified claims capable of undermining stability in the sector.
The National Secretariat disclosed that it has commenced investigations into the circumstances surrounding the unauthorised release of the internal document.
It added that appropriate actions would be taken against any individual or group found responsible for the breach.
