Image
By allcitynews.ng  As part of efforts to create more enabling environment Nigeria’s revenue administration has set for a major overhaul as the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS). As such, it is now to be known as Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) from January 2026, marking what officials describe as a fundamental shift in how public revenue is managed. Arabinrin Aderonke Atoyebi, Technical Assistant to the Executive Chairman of FIRS, Dr Zacch Adedeji, said the change represents more than an institutional rebrand, stressing that it signals a new approach to transparency, accountability and economic growth. Speaking on the reforms, Atoyebi said the transition to the NRS responds to long-standing public demands for a more efficient and transparent revenue system. “This marks a change in how the country manages revenue,” she said. The move follows the signing into law of four major tax and revenue reform bills by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on 26 June 2025. The legislation includ...

Review of the Nigerian economy in 2025 and outlook for 2026; a year of macroeconomic stabilisation by Centre for Promotion of Private Enterprise

Image
By Dr Muda Yusuf The year 2025 marked a significant turning point in Nigeria’s macroeconomic trajectory following the turbulence associated with the early phase of reforms. Exchange-rate stability emerged as the most visible achievement, with the naira largely trading within the ₦1,440–₦1,500/US$ band. Periodic marginal appreciation strengthened business confidence, eased imported inflation and restored predictability to pricing, contracting and investment planning. Inflation decelerated sharply from 24.48 percent in January to about 14.45 percent by November 2025. The slowdown was supported by currency stability, easing logistics pressures and improving supply conditions. Several food items and imported consumer goods recorded outright price declines, contributing to improved consumer sentiment and reduced price volatility. Business confidence strengthened materially. The NESG–Stanbic IBTC Business Confidence Index remained positive for most of the year, reflecting improve...

Goodbye 2025: The Year of carnage and criminality

Image
By Owei Lakemfa Madness. This will be a fitting description of 2025 as it casts its last shadows on humanity.    My conclusion is not just based on the mindless slaughter in Gaza where even the Devil will willingly take lessons. What can be more evil than luring  starving people to supposed food centres and slaughtering  655 of them? Can the Devil plan better than Israel which on June 17, 2025 announced that hungry Gazans should come take food only to blow up 59 of them?  Or is it the deliberate targeting of journalists, killing 252 of them; a figure higher than the combined figure of  journalists targeted in the First and Second World Wars,  Yugoslavia, Vietnam and Afghanistan wars. No, I don’t just  mean the genocide in Gaza, but equally other evil massacres.  Take Sudan, for instance. Two over fed and over-pampered killer forces; the Armed Forces of Sudan  and the militia  Rapid Support Forces, RSF, idly reached for the...
