Dangote Petroleum Refinery Reorganisation: Commitment to Safety, Integrity and Workers’ Rights-Mgt

Image
By allcitynews.blogspot.com  The Dangote Petroleum Refinery wishes to clarify recent reports concerning the ongoing reorganisation within its facility. This exercise is not arbitrary. It has become necessary to safeguard the refinery from repeated acts of sabotage that have raised safety concerns and affected operational efficiency.   In a statement made available to allcitynews by Dangote Media Team pointed out that, the foregoing decision was taken in the best interest of the Refinery as result of intermittent cases of sabotage in the various units of the Refinery with dire consequences on human life and related safety concerns.   We remain vigilant to our internal systems and vulnerabilities to ensure the long-term stability of this strategic national asset. It is imperative to protect the refinery for the benefit of Nigerians, our partners across Africa, and the thousands of people whose livelihoods depend on it.   Over 3,000 Nigerians cont...

Oil workers give ultimatum to Dangote over mass sack

Image
By allcitynews.blogspot.com The leadership of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) has expressed its profound outrage regarding the recent anti-labour practices perpetuated by Dangote Refinery. PENGASSAN in a statement said: “We are deeply saddened to report the unjust termination of over 800 Nigerian workers, whose dedication and service have been integral to the operations of this plant. Instead of valuing and retaining this workforce, Management has chosen to replace these qualified Nigerians with over 2,000 Indian workers, many of whom lack valid immigration documentation. “This move not only undermines the livelihoods of our citizens but also raises serious concerns about the integrity of labour practices and compliance with the Labour Act of Nigeria. Under Section 7 of the Labour Act, which prohibits discrimination and ensures the right to fair treatment in the workplace, the actions of Dangote Refinery are glaringly in violation of ...

NUPENG-DANGOTE FEUD: A REBUTTAL TO ANTI-LABOUR TIRADE

Image
By Bayo Adeleke There is no doubt that current crisis between Dangote Refinery and NUPENG is a battle for the fragile soul of Nigeria, especially in the oil and gas sector.  Many reports , opinion, write-ups have been going on in the media. However, a recent recent diatribe report in one of the online platforms titled, 'The Coming Death of NUPENG,' is not journalism, rather it is a poorly constructed hit piece, a symphony of slander orchestrated by the very corporate interests seeking to strip Nigerian workers of their fundamental human rights.  In the report, rather than address the substantive issue such as the brazen, anti-union crusade at the Dangote Refinery, the writer chooses to vomit a litany of unsubstantiated allegations, recycled propaganda, and fictional accounting. All designed to deflect from the real crime; the systemic suppression of worker representation by Africa’s richest man. The union is actively defending workers’ rights, insisting that employees m...

Lagos State Government goes tough, announces punishable measures for illegal dumping of refuse

Image
By allcitynews.blog The Lagos State Government is set to take drastic steps against illegal dumping of refuse in the state. Reiterating that it has punishable measures for anyone caught with dumping refuse illegally or littering public spaces with payment of a fine of ₦250,000 or spend up to three months in prison. The state Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab, made the announcement on Tuesday at a media briefing, warning that “serial offenders will face even stiffer punishments.” The Ministry of Environment and Water Resources says Wahab’s message leaves no room for excuses, as he reads the riot act to residents who treat environmental laws as optional “We won’t drop the ball. We would continue to ramp up our enforcement and sensitisation,” he declared. All these are detailed in a statement issued by the ministry’s Director Public Affairs, Kunle Adeshina, yesterday Tuesday, 23 September 2025. “Let me reiterate that the ban on cart push...

FirstBank embarks on all inclusive operations, sets to launch tailored financial services for blind, physically challenged customers

Image
By allcitynews.blog  FirstBank, the premier West African bank and a leading financial inclusion service provider, is set to introduce tailored financial services for blind, partially sighted, and physically challenged customers across its operations. This initiative is part of FirstBank's broader continuous commitment to promoting Financial Inclusion and Diversity, which is shown in its policies, partnerships and initiatives such as its employees’ ratio of female to male (about 41%:59%; and 37% women in management roles) as well as the FirstBank Women Network, an initiative that seeks to address the gender gap and increase the participation of women at all levels within the organisation.  In addition, the Bank’s membership of the UN Women is an affirmation of a deliberate policy that is consistent with UN Women’s Women Empowerment’s Principles (WEPs) ─ Equal Opportunity, Inclusion, and Nondiscrimination. Commenting on the proposed launch, the Chief Risk Off...

When the rich roars: The Dangote-NUPENG face-off

Image
By Owei Lakemfa Aliko Dangote is a likeable man. He is into philanthropism, smiles and even dances in public. However, the issue is not his person but his businesses. In the last few years, he has been engaged in endless fights over the operation of his refinery. But one of the most unnecessary is his fight with workers. Given the large scale media war unleashed on his behalf by mainly uninformed commentators, my conclusion is that his conglomerate or associates must have spent huge sums of money on this avoidable fight. Let us begin by disentangling the webs that have been woven around the conglomerate’s ongoing dispute with the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG). Dangote Plc was accused of rejecting the unionisation of its staff, especially the newly recruited tanker drivers. But the company claimed this was an accusation from the pit of hell. However, the truth was revealed in the peace agreement willingly signed by both parties on Tuesday Septem...

Bala Usman speaks to Nigerians after 20 years

Image
By Owei Lakemfa Yusuf Bala Usman, noted historian, fiery politician,  co-author of the 1977 Minority Report of the Nigerian Constitution and prolific writer, departed on September 24, 2005.  Given his role in the Nigerian life, intellectual prowess and mentorship of generations, were he alive, what would he be telling Nigerians?  Those who were close to him or understood the various strands of his thought process decided to speak for him. So, if Bala came back today, what would he say about the Nigerian condition? Professor Attahiru Jega, former President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, and ex-Chair of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC,  addressed the electoral and governance system. He posited that  in the first two Republics, political parties “captured power, personalised it, accessed state resources, commandeered it, vandalised it, trampled upon citizens’ rights, and governed recklessly, undermining rather than sat...
